Produced in Spain's Ribera del Duero region, Valbuena No 5 is crafted by Vega Sicilia, one of the country’s most iconic estates. The wine is made from 97% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 3% Merlot, sourced from the Finca Vega Sicilia vineyard, planted at 700–900 metres on colluvial soils. Vines average 35 years of age and are cultivated under low-yield conditions to ensure concentration and purity.
Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for five years: the first in French and American oak barrels, the second in large oak vats (8,500L and 21,000L), and the remainder in bottle. This long ageing process enhances complexity, balance and ageing potential.
