Who are we and what do we do?
We are an independent Wine & Spirits Business based in Herefordshire with a small, but select, team all of whom have a keen interest in all things Wines, Champagnes and Spirits.
We offer unique and exclusive products that suit everyone and everything. Whether it’s the one you open when you get home from work or the one you share on your wedding day – every single day can be made special and our aim is to provide the means to help you realise that.
We are constantly updating our products, always on the lookout for something a little different that may not be available elsewhere and we have become expert in sourcing quality, unique and rare products - often directly from the suppliers. Time, interest and extensive research (and, of course, sampling) has led us to create a collection that has no end in sight.
Where it all began
We are a family run business and have been in the licensed trade for nearly 300 years. The current generation has literally grown up in the trade, giving us considerable knowledge of brands, products and, of course, buying and selling Wines, Champagnes and Spirits.
When you buy from us, you can be completely confident that you are buying from a trusted, reputable brand with long established industry credentials and a genuine passion for what we do.
Our parent business, Saxtys Bar and Club, is where our e-commerce operation first began and is situated in the heart of our historic City. Since we took over Saxtys in 2001, we have built a reputation not only as a bar but also a nightclub and venue for events of which we host a fantastic variety from cocktail classes to our much-loved wine tasting evenings. By 2016, we opened our very own retail space – Secret Bottle Shop - that now goes hand in hand with our online business.

The word ‘secret’ originally resembled the shop’s fairly hidden location and countless comparisons that it now receives to ‘Aladdin’s cave’ reminds us that we chose exactly the right name. We don’t openly advertise or tell everyone where we are – it is quite literally a secret to be discovered!
Originally, our only form of entry was via Saxtys however more recently, the shop has gained its very own entrance corridor, welcomingly decorated to match the style of our cosy, independent store. We also have a black and white A-board that can be spotted on Widemarsh Street and directs you down the corridor straight into three rooms, all lined from floor to ceiling with the very best selection of Wines, Champagnes and Spirits.
Our small but dedicated team of staff know our business inside out and they all have their own personal tastes, preferences and favourites. They actively improve their knowledge of our products to ensure that you can receive plenty of accurate advice each time you come in to see us. Another benefit of wandering in is our much-loved ‘Tasting Station’ where you are more than welcome to try before you buy! Your satisfaction is our ultimate priority and we always hope that you feel welcome in the Secret Bottle Shop.
What we can do for you
We have established strong and direct relationships with many of our producers and distributors which allows us to secure superb savings when we buy our products which we can then pass straight on to you.
To deliver your orders we use a well trusted courier whose local depot is within a couple of miles of our location and are always on hand to help with queries - see our delivery information here.
Alternatively, if you want to collect from us yourself you can and our friendly staff will be more than happy to chat to you about your wines.
If you are looking to supply for a special event, we can provide wines, champagnes and glassware on a large scale and we are happy to arrange tastings by appointment to ensure that you can choose exactly what you fancy and plenty of it to go around!
If there is a particular wine you would like us to try and source, if we can get it, we will. Please do not hesitate to ask us, we love to hear your suggestions and we love getting new and exciting things.
