POL ROGER CHAMPAGNE

"I cannot live without Champagne. In victory, I deserve it. In defeat, I need it."

Pol Roger is one of Champagne’s most revered houses, founded in 1849 in Epernay, it has remained a family-run operation for over 175 years. Pol Roger’s signature style is defined by a perfect balance of power and elegance. Made from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, its Champagnes are known for their fine mousse, creamy texture, and complex layers of brioche, citrus, and roasted nuts. This combination of finesse and depth has made it a staple at British state banquets and royal celebrations, further cementing its place as a Champagne of distinction.

Perhaps its most famous admirer was Sir Winston Churchill, who developed a lifelong devotion to Pol Roger following a lunch in the British Embassy in Paris on 12 November 1945 – shortly after the Conservatives were voted out of office – where Churchill met Odette Pol Roger, and at which Pol Roger 1928 was served. His connection with the house was so strong that he drank it in pint-sized servings from a tankard and maintained a close friendship with Odette Pol-Roger. To honour this legacy, the house created the prestigious Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill in 1984, a rich and full-bodied Champagne inspired by his love of robust vintages.

Churchill himself once declared, "I cannot live without Champagne. In victory, I deserve it. In defeat, I need it."
