Monterosso Volcano Rosato 2019 75cl
Monterosso Volcano Rosato
Monte Rosso is a volcanic cone 600m above sea level formed during one of the most impressive and extensive eruptions of Etna on 15th July 1329.
Its name derives from the red colour of the soil. Today, the centuries-old un-grafted vineyards on the slopes and within the extinct crater are still planted to the Alberello - Bush - training system with the classic chestnut wood stake, the traditional practice of Etna. The warm, sunny climate is tempered by the cooling influences of sea breezes, considerable rainfall and high altitude, enabling the vineyards here to grow grapes with great intensity and freshnes.
Volcano Rosato is made with the local Nerello Mascalese grape variety, from 70 year old vines with a planting density of 9000 vines per hectare, at 700 metres above sea level. Production is tiny, at just over 1000 bottles per year.
This darker style of rose has amazing complexity. Aromas and flavours of red cherry, cranberry, wild raspberry, blood orange, dried flowers, and Mediterranean herbs. The richer texture is balanced by pronounced acidity.
