E. Guigal Gigondas 2021
A powerful Southern Rhone red made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. The grapes come from vines averaging around 40 years old, planted on ancient alluvial soils and red clay. The grapes are hand harvested and undergo traditional vinification with an extended maceration. The wine is then aged for around two years in oak foudres, with half of the barrels being new.
- The nose combines dark berries and stone fruit with liquorice, violet and forest-floor notes.
- The palate is generous and full-bodied, with juicy fruit, sweet tannins and Mediterranean spice.
- Fresh acidity gives definition to the long, perfumed finish.
This is particularly well suited to roast lamb, beef, game and mature hard cheeses.
