Krohn 10 Year Old Tawny Port

The 10 year old ports are old tawnies with a great complexity and the typical aromas and flavours of wood aged ports, with lots of nuts and caramel.

The Krohn 10 year old tawny port is a delicious dessert wine, and pairs with flavours of almonds, berries or dark chocolate. You can also pair it with rich, blue veined cheeses. Excellent at the end of the meal, as a culminating moment of a pleasant evening. Serve alone or with walnuts or toasted almonds.

The wine benefits from serving slightly chilled, between 12ºC to 16ºC. The qualities of this wine allow you to enjoy it over a long period of time. Once opened it retains its freshness and vibrancy. Optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is within two to three months.

Krohn 10 year old uses a selection of red ports from the best vineyards of the Douro Valley. Ageing in small oak casks, generally holding about 630 litres. There is a relatively small volume of wine compared to the surface area of the vessel. Meaning contact with the wood is proportionately greater.

As it matures in cask, tawny port gradually loses the ruby colour of youth and takes on the amber hue known as ‘tawny’. At the same time the wine becomes progressively smoother and mellower, its aromas gaining in richness and complexity.
