Maker's Mark 46 Kentucky Bourbon
This wheated Kentucky bourbon comes from the famous Maker's Mark distillery in Loretto. It was the first new expression added to the range since the early 1950s. The idea was simple: take the classic bourbon and give it more depth. Fully matured barrels are opened, then fitted with ten seared French oak staves. A further nine weeks in the limestone cellar builds bolder, spicier character.
- The nose shows toffee, thick caramel and sweet spice, with a toasty note of freshly sawn oak.
- The palate is creamy and soft at first, then has a burst of nutmeg, cinnamon and mulled spice.
- A warming close, where sweet spice lingers before turning faintly grassy.
Sip it neat or over a large ice cube to tame the spice. It pairs nicely with pecan pie, glazed gammon or a wedge of aged cheddar.
