James Eadie's Trade Mark "X" 100 Proof Whisky

Founded in 1854, James Eadie established his brewery in Burton upon Trent while continuing the family tradition of blending Scotch whisky. In 1877 he registered Trade Mark 'X', making it one of the earliest registered whisky trademarks in Scotland.

More than a century later, James Eadie's great-great-grandson Rupert Patrick revived the brand by studying original purchase ledgers and analysing surviving bottles alongside veteran Master Blender Norman Mathison. Their goal wasn't to create a modern interpretation, but to faithfully recreate the character of Mr Eadie's original whisky using distilleries that appeared in his historic records.

Full Proof Batch 2 takes the original Trade Mark “X” and adds additional Sherry influence from f first-fill and refill oloroso hogsheads before being bottled at 57.1% ABV.

• It opens with sweet aromas of icing sugar and raisins before developing into gentle peat smoke, soft earth and freshly cut hay. Leave it in the glass for a few minutes and richer notes of dark chocolate, sultanas, prunes and marzipan begin to emerge, finished with a subtle hint of chilli spice and sea salt.
• The palate is rich and full-bodied, with syrupy sweetness balanced by mint chocolate, ripe plums, prunes and roasted coffee beans. Gentle peat smoke runs quietly through the whisky without dominating it, adding depth rather than intensity. A splash of water softens the texture further, revealing creamy notes and ripe dark cherries.
• The finish is long, warming and wonderfully smooth. Sweet syrup and gentle spice gradually give way to elegant stone fruit flavours, leaving a lingering finish that invites another sip.
