Herencia Altes La Serra Blanc 2018 75cl

Herencia Altes was founded in 2010 by Nuria Altes and her partner Rafael de Haan in Terra Alta, Catalonia. This project was born from a dream for Nuria to one day do something special on the land on which she grew up. This is a family-owned winery producing fresh, elegant, organic wines. They cultivate 50 hectares of vines at 420 to 500 metres above sea level. The focus is on indigenous grape varieties, especially Garnatxa. Terra Alta is a region of extremes; cold winters and hot, dry summers.

Winemaking at Herencia Altes is minimal intervention. Grapes are spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts in a series of micro-vinification in small tanks. Only free-run juice is used for the whites and roses, and whole bunches are used for the reds. Concrete tanks are preferred for both fermentation and maturation so as to get the benefit's of micro-oxygenation without imparting secondary aromas and flavours. If wood is used, large, old vessels are preferred for the same reason.

La Serra Blanc is made from 100% Garnacha Blanca grapes from a single vineyard of vines planted in the early 20th century. Soils are sandy clay and limestone and altitude is around 450m.

The nose is incredibly inviting with toasty hazelnut, white peach and blossom. It gets even better when you taste it with so much rich intensity but so well balanced with fresh acidity. The finish lingers for what seems an eternity. Only 2000 bottles produced.
