Chateau Pichon Baron Les Tourelles De Longueville Pauillac 2014 75cl
Chateau Pichon Baron Les Tourelles De Longueville Pauillac 2014
This red wine offers a lovely deep ruby-red colour. The floral, fresh and complex nose reveals aromas of spices and redcurrants. The attack is smooth, elegant and subtle, leading into robust structure. The finish is elegant and long-lasting, carried along nicely by its tannins and nice ripe fruit - Jean-Rene Matignon - Technical Director - June 2016
Chateau Pichon Baron Les Tourelles de Longueville Pauillac is one of two second wines of the 2eme Grand Cru Classe Chateau Pichon Baron, named after the famous turrets that embellish the Chateau. The estate was founded in the 17th century and is today owned by AXA Millessimes, under the direction of Christian Seely.
The estate comprises 73 hectares of vineyard area on gravelly soil, planted at a density of 9,000 vines per hectare, with vines of an average age of 35 years old. The majority is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), with the remainder being made up of Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (2%). Each plot receives specific care and attention and harvest is done exclusively by hand.
Les Tourelles de Longueville is a great introduction to Pichon Baron, which can be enjoyed now or aged for a further 15 years from release. It actually has a higher proportion of Merlot (65%), with the rest of the blend consisting of Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (5%). A third of the wine is matured in new French oak, with the remainder in second fill barrels.
