Chateau Coutet Sauternes-Barsac Premier Cru Classe 2007 is the perfect partner for blue cheese, tarte tatin or a crumble.
Chateau Coutet is one of the Premier Cru Classe estates of the famous Sauternes-Barsac appellation for lusciously sweet wines. Its history goes back nearly 400 years to an English fortress which became a wine-producing estate in 1643. Coutet changed hands in the 20th century several times and in 1977 the Baly family purchased the property.
The estate lies 12 meters above sea level, an almost mountainous altitude for this region. The vineyards are 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle. There is an ongoing program of replanting in order to replace older stock and keep the average age of the vines at about 35 years old.
