Bomberger's Declaration Bourbon 2024 Release

This annual Kentucky Straight Bourbon comes from Michter's, made in Louisville and rooted in American whiskey history. The name honours a distillery that ran in the 1800s and later became Michter's in Pennsylvania. Each year's release differs slightly, and the 2024 pairs its signature Chinquapin oak with a portion of malted rye.

Chinquapin is a rarer oak, air dried and seasoned for three years before a custom toast and char. That long seasoning breaks down the harshest tannins in the wood for a smoother spirit. The malted rye adds a nutty, spicy edge to the rich core. It is bottled at a bold 108 proof, overseen by Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.

• The palate is rich and layered, moving from deep molasses through jammy fruit into chocolate and baking spice.

Pour it neat, then add a large ice cube or a splash of water to soften the strength. It stands up to rich food, so try it with pecan pie, dark chocolate desserts or smoked meats.
