Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 75cl
Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon, Franschhoek, South Africa
Boekenhoutskloof is one of the 25 first growth estates listed by lead Cape Wine critic Tim Atkin MW, and has twice been named winery of the year in Platter's WIne Guide. The name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). A Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making – hence the 7 chairs on the labels. Each of the chairs on the label pay tribute to the skills of the 18th century craftsmen, and their achievements in creating beauty from natural sources, just like the pursuit of fine wine-making.
Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from several parcels in the Franschhoek valley on predominantly sandy loam soil over granite bedrock. The wine has a brooding nose of blackberry and blueberry overlaid with cigar box and tobacco. It is an especially full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with intense blackcurrant flavours and notes of red bell pepper, tea leaves and cloves. The high tannin and acidity suggests significant ageing potential, and makes it a perfect match for rich, red meat dishes.
