Coal Pit Tiwha Pinot Noir 2022 75cl
Coal Pit Tiwha Pinot Noir
This elegant red from Central Otago’s Gibbston sub-region is made from 100% Pinot Noir grown on schist-based soils at high elevation. It’s medium-bodied, savoury and structured, with fine tannins and vibrant acidity. Aged in French oak, it reflects the purity and power of one of New Zealand’s most distinctive terroirs.
Coal Pit is a boutique, family-run vineyard planted in 1994 and certified organic under BioGro since 2023. The Tiwha cuvee is the estate’s flagship wine, named in tribute to owner Rosie Dunphy’s late father. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with wild yeast, with ageing in French oak barrels to build texture and complexity.
- Aromas of dark cherry, cocoa, wild thyme and dried herbs.
- Structured palate with blackcurrant, savoury spice and fine tannins.
- Coal Pit Tiwha Pinot Noir finishes long, mineral and balanced.
Pairs well with short rib, porcini mushrooms and rosemary.
