For generations, the Alves de Sousa family has played a significant role in the wine industry. Initially supplying fruit and wine to various port wine companies. It was in 1987, he embarked on the journey of crafting wines under the family name.

Armed with a background in viticulture from both Bordeaux and his native Portugal, Domingos expanded the family holdings. Buying additional properties and the establishment of a modern cellar at Quinta da Gaivosa. It was here that he unveiled his inaugural vintage in 1991.

Since then, Domingos, along with his wines, has garnered widespread acclaim. His dedication and expertise were recognised with the Producer of the Year by Revista de Vinhos in both 1999 and 2006. A distinction he remains the sole recipient of achieving twice.

Presently, Domingos, alongside his son Tiago, oversees the estate comprising five quintas. Here a diverse range of still and fortified wines are meticulously produced, continuing the family's esteemed winemaking legacy.
