Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky produces this straight bourbon, named after the Baptist preacher long credited with charring oak barrels. It is the bottling that put the brand on the map and remains a benchmark for the style.
Barrels are filled with a low rye recipe and matured in Level 3 charred new American oak.That heavier char caramelises the sugars in the wood, drawing out vanilla, smoke and spice as the whiskey ages. Master distillers hand-select and marry a small number of barrels for each batch, bottled at 47% ABV.
- Vanilla bean, orchard fruit and a lift of fresh mint on the nose.
- The palate is smooth and warm, with wood spice, gentle smoke and nutmeg.
- Long and sweet on the finish, with a lightly toasted edge.
Serve neat or over one large ice cube, and it makes a properly good Old Fashioned. Pair with smoked ribs, mature cheddar or a warm pecan pie.
