In the summer of 1886, with the help of his nine children - seven men and two women, William ventured to fulfil his life's ambition so that, together, they built a distillery by hand; stone by stone. After a whole year of hard work the distillery was ready and William named it Glenfiddich, which means Valley of the Deer in Gaelic.
