Akitu was established in 2001 in Central Otago’s Upper Clutha basin. The 12-hectare vineyard sits at 380m on a north-facing slope near Lake Wanaka. Founder Andrew Donaldson, a Central Otago native and Pinot Noir specialist, purchased the Mount Barker site to craft world-class Pinot Noir reflecting the region’s unique terroir.
- Akitu A2 Pinot Noir has a dark garnet with a crimson glow. This Pinot Noir opens with aromas of spicy dark cherry, cinnamon, thyme, liquorice, graphite, rose petal, and violets.
- On the palate, rich dark cherry fruit unfolds into a plush, expansive texture layered with spice and subtle earthy notes.
- Silky tannins support the generous fruit, leading to a long, vibrant finish with bright acidity and lasting complexity.
Pairs beautifully with roast duck or chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, lamb chops, soft cheeses, and charcuterie boards.
