Koerner Pigato Skin Contact Vermentino

Koerner Pigato is a unique, savoury, characterful white wine boasting delicate orchard fruit, zingy citrus acidity and a weighty texture on the palate. It has a particular inviting flavour redolent of freshly made peach ice tea.

Brothers Damon and Jono Koerner were voted the Australian Young Guns of Wine in 2019. Their travels around France and Italy has influenced a fresher, lighter style that they have brought back home with them to the Clare Valley.

A wine region increasingly well suited to Mediterranean grape varieties. The two brothers have also taken to experimenting with ceramic eggs for fermentation. The results are showstoppers to say the least.

The Vermentino grapes for Koerner Pigato were sourced from vines planted on red red clay on limestone terra rossa soils, on the northern slopes of Gullyview vineyard. The grapes are harvested relatively early to retain freshness and acidity. The juice spends 20 days on the skins, and the wine left on its fine lees for 7 months before bottling. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur additions.
