Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon

Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky produces this bourbon, drawn from one cask rather than a blend of many. The distillery works with two mash bills and five proprietary yeast strains, giving ten distinct bourbon recipes. This bottling uses just one of them, OBSV, the high rye recipe paired with a yeast known for delicate fruit and spice.

Master distiller Brent Elliott hand-selects each barrel, so every bottling carries its own character. Barrels mature at Cox's Creek in single-storey warehouses, which age the whiskey evenly across the seasons. It is bottled at 50% ABV, giving noticeably more depth and grip than the standard release.

• Opens with dried spice, pear, cocoa, vanilla and maple syrup.
• The palate is rich and fruity, with ripe plum, morello cherry and prune.
• Finishes long and smooth, turning to oak, chocolate and butterscotch.

Serve neat or with a few drops of water, and it makes an excellent Hot Toddy. Pair with roast duck, aged gouda or a dark chocolate torte.
