Michter's is one of the most admired names in American whiskey, based in Louisville, Kentucky. Its US*1 range nods to what many call the first whiskey company in America. This Kentucky Straight Bourbon is made in genuinely small batches, never more than twenty barrels. That leaves nowhere to hide a weak barrel, so each one must earn its place. The result is a mellow, earthy bourbon, bottled at 45.7%.
- The nose is rich with vanilla, caramel and milk chocolate, over buttered corn and a little oak char.
- The palate layers buttery caramel, soft peach and apricot, with gentle nutmeg and a peppery warmth.
- It finishes long and fruity, with stone fruit, apple, more chocolate and honeyed almond.
Sip it neat, over a large ice cube, or in a classic Old Fashioned. It works well with grilled steak, barbecue ribs or a dark chocolate pudding.
