Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Whisky
Glenfarclas is one of the last great family-owned distilleries in Speyside, run by the Grant family since 1865. Now in its sixth generation, it still does things the traditional way, heating its stills by direct gas flame. This single malt whisky spent 25 years maturing solely in Oloroso sherry casks. That long, patient ageing builds remarkable complexity and richness. It won gold at the 2019 International Spirits Challenge.
- The nose is complex and classically sherried, with a cooling touch of menthol.
- The palate is clean yet tangy, offering sherry, creamy barley, gingerbread and nutty chocolate.
- A very long finish follows, rich in oak, cocoa, butter and a whisper of smoke.
Sip it neat after dinner, in a tulip glass, with nothing to distract from the sherry. Pair it with dark chocolate, Christmas pudding or a plate of walnuts and hard cheese.
