Franschhoek Cellar The Last Elephant
This full-bodied red wine from South Africa’s Stellenbosch region is a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It’s rich and layered, with dark fruit, spice and fine tannins. Aged 22 months in French oak and 24 months in bottle, it’s complex and age-worthy.
Produced by Franschhoek Cellar, the wine pays tribute to the last elephant seen leaving the valley in the late 19th century. Grapes are hand-picked from sheltered vineyards with deep, well-drained soils. Fermentation is followed by extended maceration and malolactic conversion in stainless steel before oak ageing.
