Domaine de Montille Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2017 75cl
Domaine de Montille Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2017 75cl
Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic family-owned estates in Burgundy, founded in the mid-18th century and now run by 9th generation Etienne de Montille.
Etienne introduced organic farming to their vineyards as early as 1995, and Biodynamic practices followed from 2005. Under the stewardship of father Hubert, the wines had a reputation for requiring several years before being ready to be drunk, but together with chef de cave Brian Sieve, Etienne has made the wines more approachable in their youth, yet still offering an impressive capacity for ageing. For their red wines, they employ 50-100% whole-bunch fermentation. Maceration lasts 12-16 days, with twice-daily punch downs and judicious use of new French oak.
Clos du Roi is regarded as one of the finest of the Grand Cru vineyards on the hill of Corton. Situated on the upper slopes, south-east facing with clay-limestone soils. Domaine de Montille have a 0.83 hectare holding here. Most of the grapes are fermented in whole bunches and around 40% new oak is used for maturation.
Expect notes of cherries, prunes, cured meat, spices and smoke.
