Thistle & Weed Nastergal Red Blend

A bold yet balanced South African red inspired by the deep, inky berries of the black nightshade plant. The wine is built around Tempranillo from Wellington, supported by the dark intensity of Alicante Bouschet, a rare teinturier grape known for its red flesh and deeply coloured wines. Small amounts of Portuguese varieties such as Touriga Franca, Souza, Pontac, Tinta Francisca, and Touriga Nacional add further complexity and structure.

Carefully crafted with minimal intervention, the grapes are sorted and destemmed before fermenting naturally in open-top fermenters. Gentle punchdowns extract colour and tannin, while maturation for nine months in mainly older French oak barrels allows the fruit and terroir to shine. The wine is bottled with minimal filtration, preserving its natural character and depth.
