Chateau Montifaud crafts its Pineau des Charentes by blending freshly pressed grape juice with young Cognac (at least one year old) just hours after pressing, halting fermentation before it begins. A method said to have been discovered by accident in 1589. This creates a wine-based aperitif with natural sweetness balanced by vibrant fruit character.
- For the Rouge Vieux, only the finest grape must and carefully selected Cognac from the estate are used
- After blending, the Pineau is aged in oak barrels for many years, developing a rounder texture and deeper layers of complexity while retaining its lively fruit notes.
Serve well chilled. The red Pineau des Charentes makes an elegant aperitif, a cherished tradition at tables throughout the south of France.
