Michter's Small Batch US No.1 Straight Rye Whiskey
Michter's is one of the most celebrated names in American whiskey, based in Louisville, Kentucky. Rye is the grain the distillery is best known for, and this is their everyday expression. Every bottle is drawn from a single barrel, so no two are ever quite identical. The rye grain is sheared before mashing, which helps draw more flavour from each kernel. As a Kentucky Straight Rye, it is aged in new charred oak with nothing added, and bottled at 42.4%.
- The nose is dry and spicy, with toffee, oak and a hint of blackcurrant.
- The palate turns to orange peel and stem ginger, then brown sugar, cherry and warm cumin.
- It finishes long, with caramel, cinnamon, cracked pepper and crisp apple.
Sip it neat or stir it into a Manhattan or Sazerac. It works well with smoked brisket, peppered steak or mature cheese.
