Wines From Bordeaux
Wines from Bordeaux in southwestern France are some of the world's most famous and high-quality wines. There are two main regions: the Left Bank, which includes the Medoc, Graves, and Sauternes, and the Right Bank, which includes Pomerol and St. Emilion.
Wines from the Left Bank are typically of the cabernet sauvignon grapes, which produce full-bodied, tannic wines that age well. These wines are often a blend with small amounts of merlot and cabernet franc.
The Medoc is home to some of the most famous vineyards in Bordeaux, including Margaux, Pauillac, and St. Estephe, which produce long-lived, complex wines that are highly sought after by collectors.
Wines from the Right Bank are typically the merlot grape. Which produce softer, fruitier wines that are more approachable in their youth. These wines are often a blend of small amounts of cabernet franc and typically come from the Pomerol and St. Emilion regions.
Pomerol is home to some of the most prestigious and expensive wines in Bordeaux. Such as Chateau Petrus, which can command extremely high prices at auction.
Bordeaux also produces sweet wines in Sauternes regions which are Botrytis cinerea. A type of fungus that infects the grapes and causes them to become partially raisined. This gives the wine a unique flavour profile of honey, apricot, and vanilla.
