Dao is one of the oldest established wine regions of Portugal, located just south of the famous Douro Valley. The mountainous region is known for its fresh wines with powerful fruit and elegant structure.
Originally from Alentejo, owners Ana and Manuel Bio have invested in modernising and revitalising wineries in historic wine regions. The wines of Penalva are made using traditional grape varieties grown on the rugged granitic terrain by local farmers in the district of Castendo.
This wine is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz. Six months oak ageing gives subtle notes of vanilla and toast which combine with the juicy blackberry and cherry fruits.
Serve with BBQ lamb chops, cured meats or tomato based vegetarian dishes.
