Château Coutet Sauternes-Barsac (Premier Cru Classé) 2007 75cl
Château Coutet Sauternes-Barsac (Premier Cru Classé) 1997, Bordeaux, France
Château Coutet is one of the Premier Cru estates of the famous Sauternes-Barsac appellation for Dessert Wines. Its history goes back nearly 400 years to an English fortress which became a wine-producing estate in 1643. Coutet changed hands in the 20th century several times and in 1977 the Baly family purchased the property.
The estate lies 12 meters above sea level, an almost mountainous altitude for this region. The vines are 75% Semillon and 23% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle. There is an ongoing program of replanting in order to replace older stock and keep the average age of the vines at about 35 years old.
1997 was a great vintage for Sauternes and Barsac, which will be drinking beautifully now. Expect rich aromas and flavours of dried apricot, orange peel, toffee, quince jelly, vanilla and saffron. The perfect partner for blue cheese, tarte tatin or a crumble.
N.B. The Wine will throw a sediment so decant carefully.
