Known as the Royal Dubonnet Cocktail favoured by the Queen, the recipe includes two parts Dubonnet to one part gin, two cubes of ice and a slice of lemon with the pips taken out. According to reports the Queen enjoyed the cocktail before lunch.
The Queen Mother once remarked ahead of a picnic lunch. "I think that I will take two small bottles of Dubonnet and Gin with me this morning, in case it is needed."
Dubonnet was a hugely popular product in the 1960s and 70s with sales reaching around 20 million bottles per year. Today that figure is now around 500,000 and has seen significant growth in popularity again with it being used in Negronis where it is mixed in equal parts with Campari and gin.
