Tenuta San Leonardo San Leonardo 2016 75cl 13%
Tenuta San Leonardo San Leonardo, Vigneti delle Dolomiti, Italy
Tenuta San Leonardo is nestled in the Adige Valley, below the Dolomites. The wide diurnal range in this unique grape-growing area, allows for an especially long growing season, greating Wines of great poise, elegance and complexity. As of 2018, the estate became certified organic.
San Leonardo, as Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate puts it, is like a brother to Sassicaia, separated at childhood. Both wines were the creation of the late, legendary winemaker Giacomo Tachis. While Sassicaia is now a different beast compared to the vintages of the 20th century, San Leonardo has remained stylistically closer to its original conception - and price!
This is a much more classical style of Bordeaux blend compared to its Supertuscan peers. The Carmenère (30%) lends aromatics and the true character and identity of this wine, Merlot (10%) gives roundness and plushness, while Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) gives structure and elegance. This is a bright and succulent Wine, with smooth tannins, well-integrated oak, great purity of raspberry and blueberry fruit with hints of graphite, and a lean structure.
