Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco 2017 75cl 14% ABV
Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco, Piedmont, Italy
Half way up a hill, overlooking the Barolo valley, lies the fifteenth century Abbey of Our Lady of the Annunciation. Just as the friars of centuries past produced wines from the grapes grown along the hollow below the abbey, the area still produces wines of incomparable quality.
From purchasing his first vineyard in Marcenasco in 1965, Renato Ratti was dedicated to innovative winemaking and helped to turn Barolo into one of the greatest wine regions in the world. After his death in 1988, his son Pietro took charge and carried on the work and mission that his father began in 1965.
Garnet red in colour. On the nose, traces of licorice and tobacco. Full-flavoured, packed with classic flavours of roasted plums, violets and tobacco leaf. A fresh acidity and firm tannins lead onto a refined and persistent finish. Full-bodied, smooth, balanced and elegant. A sumptous Barolo suitable for long ageing.
Perfect paired with pan-fried venison and aged cheese. Best consumed now until 2028.
