Max Ferdinand Richter Mulheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Zeppelin, Mosel, Germany
Mulheim Sonnenlay ('sunshine and slatestone') is a steep south-west facing vineyard on slate and clay loam soil.
This particular Riesling by Max Ferdinand Richter was famously served in the restaurant of the 'Graf Zeppelin' restaurant in the 1920s and 1930s. The label, designed by Bauhaus painter Hans Schlosser, is a commemoration of this.
This off-dry expression of Mosel Riesling has a pronounced, almost smoky minerality, supported by an array of fresh grapefruit, lemon, green apple and herbs. The faint sweetness is beautifully balanced by the zesty acidity.
A lovely aperitif and a beautiful accompaniment for all kinds of seafood, kimchi, vegetable risotto or cured meats.
