Lemberg Spencer will challenge your preconceptions of Pinotage, in a style far removed from all stereotypes.
Lemberg Wine Estate, in the scenic Tulbagh Valley, was founded in 1978 and long known as the smallest wine estate in the Western Cape. Today, it is best known for cultivating eclectic varietals like the Hungarian white grape Harslevelu, and their pioneering interpretation of Pinotage - Spencer - which is akin to top end cru Beaujolais.
Owing to the cool nights in the Tulbagh Valley, and the cool maceration and fermentation of the grapes prior to oak maturation, Lemberg Spencer is a wonderfully delicate, perfumed expression of Pinotage. The wine has an intense red fruit character with sweet spices, mulberries, and hints of vanilla. The tannins are velvety smooth and the wine finishes so fresh that it makes you keep wanting more.
