Kanonkop Pinotage 2010 75cl 14.5% ABV
Kanonkop Pinotage 2010
4th-generation family estate Kanonkop is one of the most celebrated wine estates in Stellenbosch, South Africa, listed as a 'first growth' by Tim Atkin MW.
The name Kanonkop was derived from a kopje (hillock), from which a cannon was fired in the 17th century to alert nearby farmers that sailing ships travelling between Europe and the Far East had entered Table Bay for a stopover at Cape Town.
Here, winemaking legends Beyers Truter and Abrie Beeslaar have mastered the art of Pinotage in its most muscular form. Producing varietal Pinotage with such depth that it is capable of decades of maturation in bottle. Here, we have a rare opportunity to try a 10-year-old example of this iconic wine.
Kanonkop Pinotage 2010 is a muscular wine with ample structure, yet time has enabled the more delicate red fruit aromas to emerge beneath the richer, dark fruit flavours that characterise wines of this style in youth. The wine also possesses masterfully integrated tobacco, cocoa and vanilla spice, and a long, silky finish.
