Frei Brothers award winning merlot is a blend of two grape varieties. Small quantities of petite syrah and cabernet sauvignon adding colour, structure and depth.

After coming to California from his native Switzerland, founder Andrew Frei first established vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley in 1890. His two sons, Walter and Louis, eventually took over and adopted the name Frei Brothers. They successfully ran the winery for over 70 years.
The 16 mile long Dry Creek Valley was one of the first designated American Vinicultural Areas (AVAs) in 1983. The vineyard area has a gravel and sandy loam on the valley floor and red clay loam on the hillsides.
The warm, sunny days are balanced by coastal fog that comes in from San Francisco Bay late afternoon. The result is a full day of ripening sun followed by a cool night that slows maturation and encourages flavour and acid retention in the grapes.
