El Infiernillo Pinot Noir, Central Valley, Chile
Loosely translated as 'little hell', Infiernello gets its name from the Descabazado volcano in the neighbouring Andes mountain range.
The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard in the cool climate area of Casablanca, one of the most exciting areas for Pinot Noir right now.
The wine undergoes a very gentle fermentation in stainless steel before a short period of ageing in French oak barrels to harmonise the wine and add a little spice.
The result is extraordinarily good for a Pinot Noir at this price! There is an almost haunting fragrance of smoky raspberry and red cherry, that follows through on to the palate like silk.
A great BBQ red if you're in the mood for something smoky but lighter. But equally delicious with duck, mushroom dishes, or foie gras if you're feeling decadent.
