King of Wines, Wine of Kings - this is Tokaji Aszú, a rich, honeyed dessert wine balanced with refreshing acidity from the Tokaj-hegyalia region, made using wine making techniques dating back to 1631. Aszú wines are made when, aided by climatic conditions, botrytis concentrates the grape sugars in the hand-picked, raisin like grapes - Aszú berries.
The wine is aged skilfully for a minimum of 36 months. The Puttonyos number indicates the amount of Aszú grapes used and the level of sweetness.
The 2013 is an excellent vintage for Tokaji after three difficult years. A simply astonishing sweet wine with a tremendous balance of lip-smacking sweetness and tantalising acidity. Redolent of apricot, honey, orange peel and spices, with luscious rounded flavour balanced by fresh uplifting acidity, this is a beautifully made wine.
