Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 75cl
Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Boekenhoutskloof is one of the 25 first growth estates listed by lead Cape Wine critic Tim Atkin MW, and has twice been named winery of the year in Platter's WIne Guide. The name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). A Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making – hence the 7 chairs on the labels. Each of the chairs on the label pay tribute to the skills of the 18th century craftsmen, and their achievements in creating beauty from natural sources, just like the pursuit of fine wine-making.
Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from various sites on the north-westerly facing slopes of the prized Helderberg mountain. The soil is a mix of decomposed granite, sandstone and 'koffiekip'.
The cooling influence of winds from False Bay give a wonderful minerality and garrigue character to this wine. The dark aromas and flavours of blackcurrant, black cherry and graphite are supported by complex black tea, oregano, bay leaf, cocoa and cedar. A full-bodied, yet linear and elegant expression of Cabernet Sauvignon with a long finish.
