Boekenhoutskloof Noble Late Harvest Semillion 2017 37.5cl
Boekenhoutskloof Noble Late Harvest Semillion, Franschhoek, South Africa
Boekenhoutskloof is one of the 25 first growth estates listed by lead Cape Wine critic Tim Atkin MW, and has twice been named winery of the year in Platter's WIne Guide. The name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). A Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making – hence the 7 chairs on the labels. Each of the chairs on the label pay tribute to the skills of the 18th century craftsmen, and their achievements in creating beauty from natural sources, just like the pursuit of fine wine-making.
Boekenhoutskloof Noble Late Harvest Semillon has the tiniest proportion of Sauvignon Blanc blended in to provide extra freshness and aromatics. The wine is made from botrytised grapes and fermented in new French oak to give a rounded texture and spicy complexity. The wine has pronounced aromas and flavours of nectarine, apricot, tarte tatin, butterscotch, vanilla and honeysuckle. Delicious now but will age for a further 5-10 years.
