Talisker 18 year old is a stunning balance of peat, spice and sweetness. Mild-mannered and sweet to begin with, then more assertive, warming and smoky. This is a true masterpiece from one of Scotland's greatest distilleries, and was named 'Best Single Malt Whisky in the World' at the World Whiskies Awards in 2007.
On the nose this Whisky is rich and fruity Victoria plums, greengages, perhaps dried orange peel with some butterscotch or rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind. In the mouth it is full bodied, pleasant and smooth, sweet in front, then more assertive, with a whiff of smoke.
The overall effect of this Scottish Whisky is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar and toffee. The finish is medium length with the characteristic chilli 'catch' in.
